Lemon Rice: A Popular South Indian Dish



Ingredients

1-2 servings

  1. 1/2 cup Rice, Soaked

  2. 1/2-1 Potato, chopped

  3. 1 Onion, roughly chopped

  4. Salt as per taste

  5. Fresh CurryLeaves

  6. 1 tsp Coriander powder

  7. 1/2 tsp Garam Masala powder

  8. 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder

  9. Green chillies (as per requirement)

  10. 1-2 tsp mustard seeds

  11. 2 tbsp lemon juice

  12. Water

  13. 1-2 tbsp Vegetable Oil

  14. 1/4 tsp lemon- pepper seasoning (optional)

  15. Chana Dal/ lentil (optional)

  16. Urad Dal/white lentil (optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a medium pan, heat some oil on medium low flame, add mustard seeds and let them crackle for few seconds. (Cover the lid).


Step 2

Add onions, sauté them for few mins. Then add chopped potato,green chillies, lentils. Give it a good mix.


Step 3

Add some water, salt,red chilli,garam Masala, coriander powder. Cover the lid for 2-3 minutes(low flame). Now add soaked rice. Mix well.


Step 4

Cover the lid. Let them cook for 5 -7 minutes in low flame. When the rice is done. Add some fresh lemon juice and gently stir it. You can also salt and lemon juice (only if needed). Mix well.


Step 5

Serve Lemon Rice with plain curd or coconut chutney.
